The cost is one of the issues most carton companies are most concerned about, while minimizing production costs while ensuring quality, allowing companies to stand firm in the fierce market competition. Improve and ensure the quality of corrugated boxes and reduce costs can be started from the following aspects.

The first is the rational selection of good quality, low basis weight paper. The practice of production shows that whether the production of export carton or domestic carton, the raw materials used (caseboard paper and corrugated paper) account for more than 60% of the entire carton production cost. Therefore, according to the quality requirements of the cartons produced, choosing the right raw materials is directly related to the quality of cartons and the economic benefits of the company. The compressive strength is the best measure of the actual use of the carton and is the primary indicator of the quality assessment of the carton manufacturer and the carton user. From relevant theory and calculation formulas, it can be known that after selecting the thickness of the corrugated cardboard box and determining the size of the corrugated box and carton, the carton compressive strength (BCT) completely depends on the edge-pressure strength (EOT) of the corrugated cardboard. The side pressure strength of the corrugated board depends on the raw material's ring pressure strength (RCT), especially the corrugating medium's ring pressure strength, because the corrugated medium plays a role in supporting the carton. Therefore, in order to improve the side pressure strength of corrugated board, in addition to selecting the type of corrugated board and corrugated board for the corrugated board, the grade and weight of the raw materials should also be selected. In the past, many carton manufacturers used raw materials with lower grades or higher grammage weights, and produced corrugated paperboards with thicker AA enamels and less advanced CC blister, UU peaks, and corrugated cardboard. The view is clunky and not beautiful. 70% of the export cartons use double corrugated cardboard, while most of the foreign or domestic companies use high-grade and low-gram raw materials. The corrugated board produced can meet the requirements for making export cartons. If a cardboard box is made of low-grade and high-weight corrugated cardboard, in order to ensure the physical properties of the cardboard box, the grammage of the corrugated cardboard must be increased, thereby consuming a large amount of raw materials, resulting in an increase in cost.

Carton material selection should pay attention to the following points: First, avoid using low grade raw materials. If carton companies select low-grade raw materials to make corrugated paperboard, they will inevitably encounter quality instability factors such as inconsistent tension in the same width of the raw material, uneven thickness and unequal thickness of the same web, and inconsistency of internal and external moisture in the same web. The raw material's ring pressure strength is unstable, which reduces the side pressure of the corrugated board and the crushing strength of the carton. Therefore, in particular, the use of low-grade raw materials should be avoided when using export cartons.

Followed by the use of low-weight raw materials. In addition to the quality of imported raw materials than domestic raw materials, but also has a great advantage, that is, low raw material weight, general boxboard paper 175 ~ 300G/m2, corrugated paper for 105 ~ 127 G/m2.

The third is the use of different characteristics of domestic corrugated paper. The raw materials for domestic corrugated paper production are generally based on straw sap raw materials in the north. Their paper properties are resistant to pressure, but the paper is relatively brittle and has poor tensile strength. In the south, waste paper pulp is the main product, and its paper properties are tensile strength. Strong ability, but softer paper and poorer compressive ability. In the manufacture of AB-type double corrugated cardboard, the impact strength of corrugated cardboard is affected. A-grade corrugated medium is larger than B-grade corrugated medium. Therefore, A-type corrugated A-type corrugated medium which requires close proximity to paper should be used. The northern paper with a higher crushing strength, and the B-shaped corrugating medium near the paper can be used with north paper or southern paper.

The use of high quality, high-strength, low-weight raw materials in the carton production process is an effective way to improve the quality of cartons and reduce costs. "Paperless paper and heavy paper core paper" is a common practice in the foreign carton industry, and is an effective way to reduce production costs and improve product quality.
